A WILD LAND

This website describes a selection of walks in the far north of Scotland. Our area is bounded on the west by the River Naver and on the east by the River Halladale. There is a narrow, thinly populated northern coastal fringe but south of this is one of the last remaining areas of true wilderness in Europe. The mixture of hill, moor, coast, estuary, beach, cliff, mochair and loch has a diverse and unique flora and fauna as well as fascinating geological and historical features. The walks have been chosen to offer a variety of terrain and interest to the discerning visitor to this lesser known area of Scotland. There is also some supporting information about attractions and amenities .

Come by the hills to the land where fancy is free,
Stand where the peaks reach the sky and the lochs reach the sea;
Where the rivers run clear and the bracken is gold in the sun
And the cares of tomorrow can wait ‘til this day is done.
